Tritoniid from Red Sea

April 24, 2002
From: Dr Jacob Dafni

Dear Dr. Rudman
Here is another slug, which I came across many times in the northern Gulf of Aqaba, at Eilat. Since Dekker & Orlin (2000)(Checklist of Red Sea molluscs. Spirula, 47 suppl.) mention a number of tritoniids which I have no reference to (T. gravieri Vassiere, 1912); and several Marionia and Marionopsis species, I must ask for your assistance.

Dear Jacob,
At this stage we still have to sort out the taxonomy of these animals in the Indo-West Pacific. Until we have a better idea of how variable they are in colour then it is almost impossible to identify them from published descriptions.
Best wishes,
Bill Rudman
