Gastropteridae? from Japan.

August 10, 2002
From: Jun Imamoto

Dear Bill.
I found this creature which is like a member of the Gastropteridae. It is a form which I haven't seen before. It looks like a shellfish, too. But, it has many characteristics of the Gastropteridae including the rolled siphon, posterior flagellum, and visceral hump.

Date: 3 Aug 2002
Place: Osezaki, Izu Peninsula, Suruga bay, Japan
Size about: 2-3mm (not including the posterior part of the foot when fully extended.)
Depth: 1m
Temperature: 28C

Best Regards,
Jun Imamoto

Dear Jun,
Yes this is a gastropterid, probably a Gastropteron. I have seen it before in the south west Pacific but I don't think it has a name.
Best wishes,
