Cuthona purpureoanulata from Japan

Dear Dr.Rudman
I went to Izu-Osezaki (Suruga Bay, Japan) for a diving on July 28, 10:05 a.m. We found this sea slug which is not on the species list. I think it is perhaps a species of Cuthona.

They were found at 2-3M depth and were all around 6-8mm long. (Water temperature is 25-26C degrees.) They were under a stone. I hope that those images help in your research.

Best Regards,
Jun Imamoto

Dear Jun,
This beautiful little aeolid is indeed a Cuthona. It is Cuthona purpureoanulata, which was first recorded from Japan and has since been reported from Hong Kong.
Best wishes,
Bill Rudman
