Berthella canariensis
Cervera et. al., 2000

Order: NOTASPIDEA
Superfamily: PLEUROBRANCHOIDEA
Family: Pleurobranchidae

DISTRIBUTION

Known only from the Canary Ids, Atlantic Ocean.

PHOTO

Holotype, 36mm long, 8m depth, Bay of Gando, Isla de Gran Canaria, Canary Ids, eastern Atlantic, 12 February, 1984. Photo: Jesus Ortea.

Described from a single specimen. The mantle is grey and smooth, with black and opaque white spots scattered over the dorsal surface. The black spots are more numerous than the white. Berthella canariensis and B. californica differ from most species of Berthella in having a tuberculate gill rachis. In most species of Berthella the rachis is smooth.

Bill,
Here are the two photos of Berthella canariensis that I have, and they were supplied by Jesus Ortea. One of them is only the view of the underside.

Thanks Lucas,
It is better to have a imperfect photo of the living animal than none at all.
Best wishes,
