Sightings of this species seems to be occuring regularly in the Similans for the past few years.

I saw quite a few individuals at "East of Eden" during a trip in Apil '08. They were located relatively near each other but were not paired up or touching.

Dear Vie,

Thecacera sp. 4 is a spectacularly coloured species. It is surprising it has only become known in the last decade. I notice a branching bryozoan colony in your photos which could well be the food of this species.

Best wishes,
Bill Rudman

Thanks Ron,

Yes that certainly seems to be a colour variation of the same species

Dear Bill,
You might have seen it illustrated on the back cover of the book Nudibranchs and Sea Snails Indo-Pacific Field Guide by Helmut Debelius from 1996. The pictures in that book were taken in the Maldives.

Dear Marcel,

I have the feeling of seeing this somewhere before, but I can't recall where. Unless someone can jog my memory, it appears to be an unnamed species. I'll call it Thecacera sp. 4.

Best wishes,
Bill Rudman
