Phyllidiopsis sp. 2

It certainly looks like a Phyllidiopsis, with three distinctive ridges down the centre of the mantle. It has similarities to P. sphingis, however that species has 4 black lines and pale straw coloured rhinophores so I suspect this is an unnamed species. The three black lines, 3 ridges, black radiating lines on the mantle edge and the rhinophores with a black band down the posterior side should all be distinguishing features.

Concerning message #20553:

Hi Bill,

I think this is Phyllidiopsis sphingis, but it was found in Western Indan Ocean.
The color of rhinophores differs too.

Have you another idea for an identification ?

Dear Sylvain,

It certainly looks like a Phyllidiopsis with three distinctive ridges down the centre of the mantle. P. sphingis however has 4 black lines and pale straw coloured rhinophores so I suspect this is another species. The three black lines, 3 ridges, black radiating lines on the mantle edge and the rhinophores with a black band down the posterior side should all be distinguishing features. I will call it Phyllidopsis sp. 2

Best wishes,
Bill Rudman
